About Patricia Mahoney
After taking ceramics as a student at Moore College of Art, where she received a B.S. degree, Patricia Mahoney vowed never to work in ceramics again. Thirty-three years later she took a tile and mosaic course to learn how to make thin, translucent porcelain to use in the stained-glass windows she was making at the time and became hooked on working in porcelain, stoneware and Raku clays.
Making and selling button and bead jewelry in the early 1980‘s, working with designers in floor covering sales through the 1990‘s and building a catering service business for the past decade, Pat believes in reinvention - back to design, color and experimentation in clay, glass and wire.
Alternative firing has become another passion. Currently working in Raku clay, each piece is hand-built, bisque fired, hand glazed and hand-pulled from the fire and either reduced in a sand pit or can, or oxidized to produce varying results in the glazes. Pat
is continuously experimenting with clays and mixed media to satisfy her creative drive.
Pat is a founding member and former Treasurer of the Haverford Guild of Craftsmen as well as a member of the Main Line Art Center and the Community Arts Center. She has exhibited her work in the following shows and venues:
